Divine Dissatisfaction: When Restlessness is a Gift

if the business God gave you is what breaks you, it's time to shift

Have you ever felt like your life was “fine,” but your spirit wasn’t?

You’re successful, steady, even grateful… yet somewhere deep inside, a quiet restlessness begins to rise. Not anxiety. Not fear. But a holy nudge that whispers, “This isn’t it.”

That’s what I call divine dissatisfaction.

We often interpret dissatisfaction as a red flag—something to fix or push away. But what if, instead of resisting it, we listened to it? What if that tug on your heart isn’t a threat, but a signal from God that something greater is ahead?

A Tractor, A Podcast, and a God Moment

One day, I was mowing the lawn—yes, on my John Deere—listening to the Ken Coleman show. A guest shared how success hadn’t equaled fulfillment. And Ken said something that wrecked me:

“When you marry your talent, your passion, and your purpose, you’ll never work a day in your life.”

That hit deep. Because I was knee-deep in insurance, a business we had built from nothing and made highly profitable. But the truth? I was spiritually checked out. I knew—I knew—that I wasn’t walking in my full assignment.

And that restlessness? That was God stirring me again.

When God’s Voice Gets Louder Than Your Comfort

At that time, I had already started feeling the call back to childcare. Back to something that aligned more deeply with my why. Something I had once loved—but walked away from because I had been too burned out to see an alternative.

But now, with more clarity, more wisdom, and better boundaries, I could see how God had never closed that door—He was simply calling me to walk back through it differently.

Sometimes dissatisfaction doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong. It means God is doing something new.

3 Signs You’re Experiencing Divine Dissatisfaction

  1. You feel unfulfilled in success — like your work isn’t “bad,” but it’s not feeding your soul.

  2. You sense a shift coming, even if you can’t see it clearly yet.

  3. You’re pulled toward something that aligns more deeply with your core values and calling.

If you feel that, don’t shove it down. Sit with it. Pray about it. That feeling might be God preparing you for your next step.
